Dulles Health & Rehab Center Raises Money for
American Heart Association

Residents, Staff, and the Community Step Up for Fundraiser

Herndon, VA – For many, February is known as the month of love.  Everywhere you look, there are hearts posted.  From grocery stores to our favorite restaurants, it’s hard to overlook Valentine’s Day. While most are observing the holiday, others are celebrating another event involving hearts… Proclaimed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, February was declared as American Heart Month.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the goal of the month is to help “motivate Americans to adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent heart disease.”  In the United States, more than 800,000 people die of cardiovascular disease every year, and 1 in 3 women are diagnosed with heart disease.  Organizations like the American Heart Association created activities and fundraisers to help fund lifesaving research, improve patient care, and reach at-risk populations.

Doing their part, Dulles Health & Rehab Center decided to give back by hosting two fundraising activities: Candygram and a Shirt Sale.  In a joint effort between the Admissions & Activities Departments and the Resident Council, an advisory group within the Center made up of residents, #TeamDulles set out to raise as much money as possible for the American Heart Association.

“It was beautiful to see our staff and residents come together to support the American Heart Association and a cause that is important to our Dulles Health and Rehab Center community,” says AnaLucia Rojas, Director of Recreational Therapy.

At the end of the month, the Resident Council calculated the total amount raised and happily presented a check to the American Heart Association for $654. On behalf of the Resident Council, Dulles Health & Rehab Center would like to thank everyone who helped us achieve this goal and contributed to this cause.

“We felt it was very important to give back to our community because they have helped and supported us through the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Leslie Ruffner, the Center’s Administrator. “It’s just the right thing to do.”
